Master Tung's Acupuncture
Master Tung Ching Chang (1916-1975) emerged from a lineage deeply rooted in acupuncture expertise, hailing from Ping Du County, Shandong Province, China. Renowned for his remarkable healing abilities, he garnered widespread acclaim for achieving profound results with minimal needle intervention. It's said that many of his patients experienced immediate relief upon the insertion of just a few needles.
From a tender age, Master Tung shadowed his father during patient treatments, eventually establishing his own clinic at a remarkable 18 years old. His journey took a significant turn during the tumult of the Second World War when he served in the nationalist KMT army, utilizing his healing prowess to aid fellow soldiers. However, as the tides of war shifted, Master Tung found himself among those retreating to Taiwan as Mao Zedong's Communist army emerged victorious in mainland China.
Undeterred by the upheavals of war and displacement, Master Tung relocated to Taipei in the early 1960s, where he established a highly successful private clinic. Throughout his illustrious career, it's estimated that he treated an astonishing 400,000 patients. Despite the decision of his son not to carry on the family tradition, Master Tung was determined to ensure that his lineage of acupuncture didn't fade into obscurity. Consequently, he endeavored to impart his family's unique style of acupuncture to the wider world.
Between 1962 and 1975, Master Tung meticulously trained 73 disciples, a testament to his commitment to preserving and disseminating his ancestral knowledge. Notably, the names of these disciples are etched on his tombstone, symbolizing the enduring legacy of his teachings.
The Tung lineage acupuncture system stands out for its extensive repertoire, boasting over 700 distinct points, specialized bloodletting techniques, and the innovative practice of Dao-Ma needling, characterized by the insertion of 2-3 or more needles successively in therapeutic regions. Additionally, Master Tung pioneered the use of holographic imaging in acupuncture diagnostics and treatment.
Master Tung's pioneering spirit and avant-garde approach solidified his status as a visionary in the realm of acupuncture. Today, his legacy shines brightly as his familial system continues to be embraced and practiced by acupuncturists worldwide, lauded as one of the most effective and transformative acupuncture systems in existence.
